This review is from: Gallifrey 2.5 - Imperiatrix (Doctor Who S.) (Audio CD)
This is the fifth episode in the second series of the Gallifrey audio cds. President Romana is still having her nightmares; or are they portents of some dread future? Darkel has played her hand, and brought her fight with Romana for power into the open; can she get the Timelord Council on her side? And is Darkel involved in the attacks on offworld students, an integral part of Romana’s policy to open Gallifrey up to other influences and assist other temporal powers in their endeavours with time itself. Leela and K9 search for evidence to help Romana, but is Romana already in the grips of something other than herself? Is civil war on Gallifrey preventable?

If it sounds like there’s a lot going on in this story, there is. And it’s been all a long time brewing, right from the first series of 4 stories in the Gallifrey series, where Free Time rebels bring focus to the internal politicking and unrest on Gallifrey; from there, the Pandora issue has risen, Romana and Leela have faced their own demons, and there still seems to be so much that they cannot as yet foresee about who or what is attacking them. This is a great story; unusually for the Gallifrey series, this episode goes onto two cds, and there is a lot of action. The story is really ramping up for Series 3, and I’m looking forward immensely to getting to those episodes.

Lalla Ward is doing a great job as Romana, Louise Jameson as Leela, Linda Bellingham as Darkel, Sean Carlsen as the hapless Narvin, and this story sees the return of Commander Hallan played by Michael Cuckson. Absolutely fantastic stuff.

This review is from: Gallifrey 2.5 - Imperiatrix (Doctor Who S.) (Audio CD)
Imperiatrix is the final instalment in Big Finish's second series of Gallifrey audios, and sees the various power struggles over the Presidency erupt into mass killings. As with the other instalments in this second series the quality of writing and performances is high, with all the characters boasting good motivation. The only slight disappointment this time is that the series turns out to end of a cliff-hanger, so listeners will have to return for the forthcoming third series for any kind of closure to this story. As long as you can live with that, highly recommended.
