5.0 out of 5 stars Second hit in a row, 5 Nov 2005
This review is from: Cloudsailors: A Story Of Secrets and Survival (Hardcover)
I read Montgomery's 'The Voyage of the Arctic Tern' with my wife and children a couple of years back, and much enjoyed it. The perfect winter's read. It was with some degree of anticipation, then, that I got hold of his next- 'Cloudsailors'. At first, I was a little surprised- the first book was all in verse, and I was expecting more of the same- when in fact this one is in conventional prose.
Firstly, the design is fantastic- a beautiful little book ideal for travel of Xmas stockings... But within... and what a story! The term 'magical' is overused nowadays, but this really is. The story is enchanting... and I defy anyone not to shed a tear towards the end!
An absolute treat!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and haunting, 11 Feb 2014
This review is from: Cloudsailors: A Story Of Secrets and Survival (Hardcover)
Hugh Montgomery's epic verse first seen in Voyage of the Arctic Tern is used to sumptuous effect here, in a haunting tale of loss and love in a nevernever land that has a dark side. Difficult to say too much more without giving away the plot but safe to say there is much wisdom and a vital message for mankind within Montgomery's lilting, elegiac writing. It sweeps you along like a dream. Highly recommended.

A beautifully written, other wordly story. The illustrations are carefully done and are quite soft compared with the message of the book. Thought provoking and very sad.
