5.0 out of 5 stars The Rise and Fall of British Railways: Branch & Minor Lines, 30 Aug 2011

This review is from: The Rise and Fall of British Railways: Branch & Minor Lines (Hardcover)
John Vaughn's book subjects mean that the book will be interesting to anyone with trains in their blood. Especially his specialised works on branch lines, notably those in Cornwall. To anyone familiar with the county, he will take you there in pictures and in prose which are both usually original and evocative.

His latest book is no exception except that it covers most areas of the country as branch lines are not geographical, each very similar yet very different which adds to their appeal. As in the rest of his books each topic is covered comprehensively from rolling stock to track and infrastructure.

This is not the 'Ashburton Branch' kind of book but rather an overall look at the country's branch lines in their prime and not so prime. It is highly recommended by this reader to anyone who wondered where that line went and what it was like when you got there.
