5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring, 14 July 2011
This review is from: Fast Lady: My Life in Motorsport (Hardcover)
Joy was, for many years, lady's record holder at the oldest established motor sport venue in the world - Shelsley Walsh in Worcestershire. Joy's book not only recounts her life in motor sport, which is far more extensive than speed hillclimbing, but also her initiative in completing her education in Italy whilst searching for a purpose in life.
Her drive and initiative would be an inspiration to anyone, able bodied or not and the adventure culminates with an account of the London to Sydney marathon, in a Morris Minor which managed all but the last few miles of the trip.
Whilst not written as such, this book would also serve as a fitting tribute to her long-time associate, trevor, who sadly died recently.
Of wide appeal and not merely motor sport fans

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast Lady - My Life In Motorsport by Joy Rainey, 27 Aug 2012

This review is from: Fast Lady: My Life in Motorsport (Hardcover)
The life story of a truly inspirational lady. Joy Rainey was born in Australia in the 1950's and the daughter of a 3-time Australian Formula 3 champion. An early taste for speed led her to compete at several UK hill climb venues, including the world famous Shelsley Walsh where she is a former ladies record holder.

This book takes you through her life, from her early childhood, coming to grips with wearing leg irons due to her being a sufferer of restricted growth and through her driving to Perugia at the start of her university days in Italy, to her taking part on the London to Sydney Marathon in 2004 with her late partner Trevor Hulks in a 1970 Morris Minor which they spent the previous year restoring to compete in the event.

A 'must read' for anyone interested in life stories, or have an association with UK hill climbing or motorsport. With a forward from 1980 Formula One champion, Alan Jones MBE and a publishers forward from John Haynes OBE, this book will have you engrossed from cover to cover.

Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Fast Lady: My Life in Motorsport (Hardcover)
I have watched the lady compete on many occasions, but all I knew about her was that she was Australian and was born with a genetic problem. This book makes wonderful reading and shows what can be achieved with determination and a positive outlook.
