This review is from: Darkness Rising: A Complete History of the Storm of Chaos (Warhammer) (Paperback)
This book details the events of the recent worldwide Storm of Chaos Warhammer campaign and gives the in game perspective for the battles during that time. The book covers all the events and portents that preceded the campaign, the Conclave of Light, the rise of Valten and the climactic siege of Middenhiem. Darkness is written in the form of a journal of the historian Frederich "Old" Weirde and includes first hand accounts of events from his son Stefan. The book includes some good background information on Middenhiem and a small amount of info on the Empire as a whole during this period. Although Darkness Rising doesn't go into the detail of what happened during the Storm of Chaos the book does give you a good first person perspective of life in the Empire when under threat by the forces of Chaos.

4.0 out of 5 stars Little need to big-up, 25 Jan 2009

This review is from: Darkness Rising: A Complete History of the Storm of Chaos (Warhammer) (Paperback)
Darkness Rising - A complete history of the Storm of Chaos is pitched at anyone who is new to the Old World of Warhammer, successfully treading the fine line between lightweight and open-ended introduction on the one hand and detailed dramatis personae on the other. Veterans will feel well-informed and enjoy this book in that reading it is rather like taking a refresher course in all things Warhammer. This is also for fans who like their documents authentic, yet this is rarely a demanding or challenging book, at least untill the last couple of pages, when the two Scribes finally really came alive for me...
My only genuine niggle was that some of the italic script is printed very, very tiny, making lots of natural sun-light an essential companion to your reading.
4 Star.
