4.0 out of 5 stars Great Read though not what it says on the tin
Night Fighter over Germany – Flying Beaufighters and Mosquitos in World War 2 – Graham White Completed 19 July 14
Some of the comments on Amazon regarding this book are critical as the Title does not reflect the content. This is a valid criticism as the book hardly touched on the Author’s 30+ operations flying as a Night Escort towards the end of...

1.0 out of 5 stars Fun and Games in WW2
A very misleading title, the Author seemed to spend little time in a " Night Fighter over Germany" should be titled "Laughs with the RAF"

4.0 out of 5 stars Night Fighter over Germany, 8 Mar 2014

Other reviewers have complained that this book talks too much to the author's non-flying exploits (much of it in bars) and not enough to ops. Personally I can forgive this - he is telling the complete story as he saw it and obviously felt that concentrating solely on the flying would diminish this.

What I did find a little irritating was the humour. It's forced at times, and the sad part is that the book doesn't need it. The funny stories are funny enough in their own right without jokey asides - it often feels like the author is trying too hard to be humorous Suffice to say the more serious side and the tragedies are also more than capable of standing up for themselves without embellishment.

On the whole, though, still an enjoyable book. I actually found the post war part of it more interesting than the wartime period which I didn't expect.

Thoroughly enjoyable read. Laughed out loud several times. Not a lot of flying action, but is to be enjoyed nonetheless.

I read a lot of military books and this is the first I have encountered from a night fighters perspective.
Not written in a Gung Ho style more ordinary guy. Well written, gives an additional perspective to war and enjoyable

4.0 out of 5 stars Amusing, 17 Jan 2014

A late entry into the vast repertoire of Second World War biographies, written well with typical RAF understatement and humour. Enjoyable reminiscences
from a survivor of a different world surely one of the last first hand accounts that will be written of the experiences of a brave generation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blind Flying with a Purpose, 29 Dec 2013

Initially I chose it as the title appealed to me as I had no great information of night fighting by the RAF over Germany.
The book itself was extremely good, humorous, but at the same time extremely serious. Some of the descriptive anecdotes were extremely funny, especially the one re 'Crippen'.
A good read I can recommend it to the majority of readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mosquito at war and peace, 15 Sep 2013

A good easy to read history of a pilot`s experience through WWII to the early 50`s.
The narrative is written in the easier, humerous style of Alan Coren.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic read and not just a war story. Well done Graham., 15 Feb 2014

This review is from: Night Fighter Over Germany: Flying Beaufighters and Mosquitoes in World War 2 (Pen & Sword Aviation) (Hardcover)
A very good and interesting look at life during the war years.

The Mosquito was the first MRCA and a fantastic piece of engineering with tremendous engines. Graham's account paints a vivid picture of the aircraft and those who operated it.

Strongly recommended.
