5.0 out of 5 stars Qui bono? Who benefits from Hitler's stolen wealth?, 21 Feb 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: Hitler's Fortune (Hardcover)
Mumbling to myself that there can't be that much relevant new information about Hitler to be discovered I began reading this book somewhat reluctantly, on a friend's recommendation. It seems I couldn't have been more wrong about 'it all having been said already' - there is so much we don't know about the enormous hidden fortunes of this once penniless doodler! Are the ill-gotten riches now happily jingling and breeding profit in American pockets? Who benefits? According to Whetton, Hitler was not above stealing from his friends or even from old ladies and as a result became the richest man in Europe. Who was the heir to all that wealth? Although Hitler's Fortune does not reveal where *all* the money went, the book, if made to a documentary film, would make a box office hit! While the subject is closely related to the indescribable human tragedies of WW II the book manages to be genuinely funny at times and makes an interesting and easy reading. I highly recommend it to anyone having any interest in history - or in having a go at a thriller that unfortunately did happen - while the world was watching.
