This product is ultimately designed for the CIPD post-grad diploma or a Masters degree in HRM of which I am completing. This is by far the worst book I have been given as a compulsory text for a module of which I have completed all others. The reason: several times I have gone to find the direct source of a citation and it's been missing, the index is terrible, certain topics are missing from it and it is just not easy to find your way around if you are looking for "additional topics". Finally, some of the analogies are awful! Particularly the description of emergent change, honestly, I don't know how it got through the CIPD's usually high standards... A great alternative is Armstrong's Handbook of Human Resource Management Practice > covers everything much more professionally written!

This is the worst and, more dissappointingly, the most unhelpful text book I've ever read. The reason being is it contains very little research, too much opinion and poor case studies. Please don't buy this book as you will fully regret it - totally inadequate and an opinion shared by the 40 others on my programme.

Like other reviewers, I would say find one that does it better (I used Torrington Hall) that tells you the stuff, then go back and re-read this one. It is one of the least accessible books I've ever read, turgid, complicated, missing relevant details, assumes knowledge - simply dreadful. If you can avoid it, do.

the book is easy to follow and great support for the CIPD course. I would suggest it would be an essential buy!
