4.0 out of 5 stars Cinderella, 4 Dec 2011
This review is from: Cinderella (Paperback)
As a teacher of Year 3/4 pupils I was looking for traditional tales with a twist. This one is set in the 20s and the illustrations are good. I thought the story was largely very similar to the original and would have liked more twists but the kids loved it!

This is a new take on the Cinderella story. The story is familiar with a difference. The illustrations are gorgeous and stimulate discussion on their own account - a huge treat and a book to treasure!

This review is from: Cinderella (Paperback)
This Cinderella is an art deco love story. There is a girl named Greta who lives with her father. One day the father sets off to the city to attend an important meeting saying he will be back in two days. He comes home with a big surprise.
'In the city he had met a woman whose beauty was such that it could only be recognised by a few (particularly those who had lost their glasses).' She has two daughters Elvira and Ermintrude. 'Elvira was as wicked as Ermintrude was dim, and Ermintrude was very, very dim.'
Then it is pretty much the normal Cinderella story. Only instead of a carriage she has a car and chauffeur. The Prince had fallen in love with her, he had her glass slipper and he goes looking for the bride who fits the slipper. The story is pretty much like the original. But I like the way the author has written it. It is witty and funny. And the illustrations are lovely! Perfect book!
