4.0 out of 5 stars Top Spur!!!
Being a spurs fan I'd have to agree with the other reviews in that this is a very good book. Roy, is a die-hard fan and his love for the club and all things THFC really comes through as does his loyalty having worked at N17 for many years. He's even played for the club a couple of times and scored a goal set up by George Best of all people!!! You'll have to buy the book...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Story - Poorly Presented
Roy Reyland was a Spurs legend, in as much as he looked after the Club's kits for nearly 30 years. It is such a shame that his story has been made to look foolish by some atrocious editing and awful mistakes.

Page 1 has the first glaring error (Spurs beat Atletico Madrid to win the 1963 Cup Winners Cup, not Real Madrid), and it is all downhill from there. It...

He's even played for the club a couple of times and scored a goal set up by George Best of all people!!! You'll have to buy the book to find out how that came about!!!! If you're looking for scandal and back stabbing behind closed doors at White Hart Lane this is NOT the book for you. However, if like me you were just looking for a good gentle read and humourous stories relating to the club, then buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, buy it !, 20 Oct 2010

I was a bit wary when I first bought this book but those fears dissappeared on reading the first few pages. This is a very interesting book for all Spurs fans giving a real insight into the players and characters from Tottenham over the last 25 years or so. Written by a real Spurs 'hero', it has its funny moments recalling the tales of a certain Mr.Gascoigne and stories of Bill Nick and the old guard at Tottenham. A 'not to be missed' book for any Tottenham die-hard supporter.

This account made an interesting change from the interminable biographies - another point of view and very readable. Excellent value for money.

4.0 out of 5 stars A decent enough read, 20 Jun 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is an enjoyable read and certainly targeted squarely at Spurs. Supporters of other teams will not fully appreciate its content in my opinion. The kitman has served over twenty years of Spurs legends and tells several amusing stories about their dressing room tales. A lot of it is taken up with Gazza's (hyper)activities - there will never be another footballer like him, for sure - Balotelli is the nearest in terms of outrageous behaviour but Balotelli isn't good enough to lace Gazza's boots in truth. I had heard a lot of the stories about Gazza, and may of the other Spurs folklore (such as the cup final kit debacle of 87) and it was a decent enough stroll down White Hart (Memory) Lane! One criticism is that the book was ghostwritten and the personality of the kitman did not really come across. This is a shame as by all accounts Leyland is a really popular figure at the club.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Story - Poorly Presented, 9 Jun 2011

Roy Reyland was a Spurs legend, in as much as he looked after the Club's kits for nearly 30 years. It is such a shame that his story has been made to look foolish by some atrocious editing and awful mistakes.

Page 1 has the first glaring error (Spurs beat Atletico Madrid to win the 1963 Cup Winners Cup, not Real Madrid), and it is all downhill from there. It makes Mr Reyland look like he has no idea what he is talking about, and he clearly does, being a fan before he become a staff member. Paragraphs copied, and inserted in the wrong places, and many other factual errors riddle this book, and we can only hope the the paperback edition has ALL of these rectified.

Wait until June, and maybe you'll get the true tale of the boot room.

4.0 out of 5 stars Shirts, Shorts & Spurs, real backroom memories, 9 Oct 2010
This review is from: Shirts, Shorts and Spurs (Hardcover)
What a pleasant change, an Autobiography with real life stories from a popular back room member of a football clubs staff. I would imagine Roy Reyland's memories could be applicable to many long serving club stalwarts the length of the country. All with a tale to tell and from the real behind the scenes perspective. Obviously this story of a groundsman to kit man in nearly 3 decades at a famous club will be of special interest to Tottenham Hotspur fans, but should equally appeal to football fans of any club who has an unsung hero. If you are not a Spurs fan replace Ginola, Sheringham, Les Ferdinand and Hoddle with your own club legends, but where Reyland has the edge is there is only one Paul Gascoigne. A thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable read coming at the usual football autobiography from another angle, and from this reviewer, highly recommended.
