5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant author
This is the first time I've read any of Hitchen's books but I'm already looking for more.
Radical, lucid in his arguments, pacy and succinct; what a writer!
Hitchens demonstrates the enormous debt owed to Tom Paine by America in particular - a debt still acknowledged in muted tones at best in that country.
This is an absolutely 'must read' book for anyone...

The book is an easy read, well structured but somehow lacking in the depth that we can observe in his other works. In his attempt to avoid a partisan or bias view point Hitchen's leaves his opinions behind and expresses very little of that verve we have grown use...

A must read book, life is just too short to waste time on fiction! There is a wealth of historical fact within the pages of this book.

A must for anyone interested in American History, written as only Mr Hitchens can, my only complaint is that it was far too short.
