4.0 out of 5 stars Quite detailed but incomplete, inaccurate and a bit patronizing, 23 Oct. 2009
This review is from: The Rough Guide to Buenos Aires (Paperback)
This guide is quite detailed and should get you by if you are going to Buenos Aires. It has pretty much everything you can think of, including maps, etc. It had an excellent description of how the bus system works that was quite impressive. Long descriptions of parks, museums, places to eat and drink and such.

I could tell you about 3 problems I found with it. First, it recommended a place that is apparently very popular and had instructions on how to get there by public transport, but forgot to mention that, although the place itself is OK, it is indeed located in a very rough area and you should be extremely careful on your way in - that's at least what the locals told us on the bus journey; as a traveller I find this is one of the key things a good guide should provide safe vs. non safe areas. Secondly, opening times, free days and prices for museums were wrong in around 50% of the cases; I know these things tend to change but it was just too many errors. Lastly, the tone of the book is quite patronizing and condescending in many occasions, which I personally found annoying, although other readers probably wouldn't mind that much.

Useful guide all in all. Don't believe everything you find there but I would still recommend it.
