This is an interesting little list of major superheroes and supervillains (mainly Marvel and D.C.) with a few mistakes and some glaring omissions.
There is a section devoted to the great comic artists and writers (Lee, Kirby, Moore et al) but early innovators such as Will Eisner and Hal Foster are largely ignored. 2000ad is also named as one the more important comic publications and yet only one of it's characters (Nemesis the Warlock) makes the grade in the 'heroes' section, and none in the 'villains'. No Judge Dredd? Seriously? Granted, he has no superpowers, but neither does Batman and he takes up half the (much smaller than expected) book.
Other sorely missed entries include Swamp Thing, Preacher, The Spirit and Jonah Hex.
All that said; what IS included is a lot of fun.
Oh God, did I really just write all that? I need to start taking my anti-nerd medication again.

This is an interesting book on many levels. It's good on the origins of comics and superheroes, the reference section is surprisingly extensive with characters who will be new to most people and it is neither highbrow nor condescending.
Well worth a few quid.
