The 9 inches to 1 mile scale of this handy atlas (at 8" x 5" it will fit in most coat pockets) provides very clear mapping for in particular the West End, the City and Docklands. It covers the central area from Shepherd's Bush in the West to London City Airport in the East, and includes the Olympic Park at Stratford. Apart from the street index there is an index of rail, underground, DLR, riverbus and overground stations, together with full details of the Congestion Charging Zone and location maps for West End theatres and cinemas. There is full coverage of local landmarks, utilities, toilets etc.

This was just the detailed atlas for Central London that I was looking for, making getting around in general, and planning of group walks in particular, straightforward and enjoyable. For residents and longer term visitors, at Amazon's price it's a steal.

I'm here because it's time to replace my 30 year old version! Just reading the comments - I just cannot comprehend the grumbles that it only covers central london. That's what it claims to do: the cover reads "Central london's clearest mapping". This delivers on that claim. If it covered all of london at that scale it would be far too big to handle. A-Z offer a sizeable range of London maps, if you failed to read the description and bought the wrong thing you have nobody to blame but yourself. If you're OK with one more than twice as thick and heavy there is a good alternative "London Street Atlas (spiral) (A-Z Street Atlas)" which covers a larger area but includes a few super-scale pages of the centre.

This book is small enough not to be an encumbrance, covers the declared area and is easy to read. I usually take it with me when visiting london, it gets me round all the main attractions, museums, galleries, theatres etc. Even if I'm in an hotel beyond the reach of the map probably all I need is the route from the hotel to the public transport to get me to/from the centre, I look that up in advance rather than carry the full A-Z. If I need a map that covers a wider area then I use a different A-Z product.

Great big scale, easy to read when your eyes are over 40 like mine. (Over 40 definitely isn't the same thing as 20/20). Exceptionally good price from Amazon too, compared to what you'd pay in a bookstore, service station, London station etc.

It would be better if the atlas had a metal spiral binding so it could stay open on the page selected.

This has nice big print, which is very good if your eyes aren't 100 per cent and you strain to see stuff in an ordinary A-Z, but I was a bit disappointed by it as it didn't give the name of a tube station that was next to the place I wanted to get to (Century in Shaftesbury Avenue) - just giving a tube sign - and not being a Londoner I couldn't guess what station it was. And also it only covers really central London, so if your friends happen to live close to central London but aren't actually uber-rich enough to manage Kensington etc. their streets won't be in it. So you'll still need an old-fashioned, tiny-print A-Z to get to them.

I'm very glad to get this larger print map. I was a little disappointed it didn't go just a teeny bit further out, say to include Clapham Junction in the south to Highbury and Islington in the north as it would include the London Overground

Excellent scale
Very easy to use, but only covers central London.
Best used in conjunction with a regular A to Z.
I have given 4 stars as it could be improved by being bigger and thus cover a larger area.

This guide had all the information required for a weekend stop in London. My only reservation is that the scale being so large, I was constantly having to go between pages,

If you like just looking at maps for fun (and I do) this is great. For actual navigation in practice I think that fewer inches to the mile would be more useful.
