5.0 out of 5 stars The British steam age at its zenith
Ever wondered about those references in Sherlock Holmes to Bradshaw? It was an essential item for anyone who wanted to move from A to B or P to Q in the British Isles. Ever wondered about those references in Sherlock Holmes to Bradshaw? It was an essential item for anyone who wanted to move from A to B or P to Q in the British Isles. As essential as the Internet today. This edition shows British railways at their peak - cars were unreliable, there were no commercial air services, and as the introduction says, anything which went more than a dozen miles went by train. You have to be a bit of an anorak to start planning journeys between, say, Burton Agnes and Burton Constable (both on the North Eastern Railway), but you will find browsing your own neighbourhood interesting, unless you lack curiosity about its past. An important item of social history.

5.0 out of 5 stars BRADSHAW 1910 timetable., 2 Aug 2011
I was lucky to find this book in a second hand bookshop in the Charing Cross Road for £5 last year. I must admit I did not realise that the book was scarce as I was looking for something else on railways.

It is the whole of the 1910 British timetable so extremely interesting to see 100 year old timings. According to the preface the real 1910 version was rare, silly money being asked, in even 1968 when the reprint was issued. The typeface is larger than the original because old timetables tend to be written in very small typeface.

1.0 out of 5 stars Brads haws Railway guide., 13 Feb 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Item misrepresented. Implied original 1910 edition, in fact 1960's reprint and avaiable at £20. I was charged £195 which even more implied original edition.
