This is one of the best books I have read concerning signs and symbols. It puts some other books to shame, giving you details about where the symbol/sign originated and it's many uses through out the ages. I would say if you are interested in this subject this book is a great place to start, it contains some very good and well researched information that is highly valuable to the student of this subject.

This book was everything I hoped for ... and more. Signs and symbols have fascinated me for a very long time and the background given in this book set the whole context, showing how these shapes have been developed, evolved and been used over the years. Exceptionally well written and clear illustrations, both line drawings and examples of artwork. I recommend this book very highly.

It a lovely book and very useful, but after reading and digesting information, tend to look for signs and symbols when I go out, drive hubby nuts.
Have a couple of these and am looking at others

Being a self-confessed "Symbol junkie" I find this book an exellent addition to my ever growing library. With over 500 symbols and signs to behold this book pretty much says it all. It has a passage on Carl Jung, who used signs and symbols to understand human nature, a very important part of his studies, by all accounts.
The book is set out in linear fashion, which is helpfull, it starts with ancient civilisations such as egypt and mesopotamia, the military, through astrology, numbers, colours, animals. Amulets, charms and talismans are also covered, along with ceremonial magical markings, it's all in there.
What I find helpful is, if you notice a sign or symbol, which is unfamiliar you can look it up with ease. A very helpful and concise book, highly recommended...
