5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing read!
Meet Chris Popham, a salesman miserable with his lot. He's been in a long term relationship with Karen, a girl he knew from school he went on the rebound with that never ended when Karen's best mate Jill turned him down. Still in love with her, Chris meets up with Jill once a week, and wishes things were different. He's not too happy with his job either, trying his...

3.0 out of 5 stars Confused? You will be
Tom Holt is an interesting writer - at times brilliant, at other times (as here) too damn clever for his own good. Like other readers, I spent most of this book wondering what the hell was going on and who half the characters were - some people may like that, I don't (that's what I go to work for). I've been reading Tom Holt for longer than I care to remember (there's a...

(VINE VOICE)    (TOP 500 REVIEWER)
The latest novel from Tom Holt sees a new branch of JWW in this offering that really does keep on ticking the boxes for the reader. Whilst occasionally his writing loses it a bit on subsequent novels featuring the same characters each crisp new adventure really will tick the readers boxes. You want levity? Yep. You want a twisted plot? Yep. You want a believable character who's about as clued in as you and I? Yep. Definitely a lot of fun and continues the success of others in the series. If you haven't read The Portable Door then make that your must purchase for next week. You'll laugh, you'll route for the hero and above all you'll become a fan of Tom's work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant as ever, 18 Jun 2009
Tom Holt just gets better. His maturity and experience have, in my eyes, put him on a par with Terry Pratchett.

4.0 out of 5 stars MAY CONTAIN TRACES OF GENIUS, 14 Feb 2010
TOM HOLT TRIES (AND FAILS) TO RETURN TO FORM AFTER HIS LATEST FEW DISMAL OFFERINGS - BUT HE IS STILL STRUGGLING TO RECAPTURE HIS EARLY PROMISE. THE WRITING IS VERY FORMULAIC AND FOLLOWS HIS STANDARD STORY LINE - SLIGHTLY GEEKY BOY GETS IT TOGETHER - OR NOT - EVENTUALLY - WITH EQUALLY GEEKY GIRL. THROW IN A FEW DEMONS, AN IMPRISONED FAIRY TALE CREATURE IN THE SAT NAV , THE RETURN OF THE FAY - BORING !!! THE BOOK FAILS TO LIVE UP TO THE PROMISE OF THE FIRST FEW PREVIEW CHAPTERS.

HAS HE BEEN REDUCED TO WRITING FOR AMERICANS?

IT'S JUST A 'PUFF' PIECE - EVEN THE RANGE OF VOCABULARY SEEMS TO HAVE SHRUNK - MUST BE FOR AMERICANS.

IF I HAD BOUGHT THIS BOOK FROM A SHOP I WOULD HAVE TAKEN IT BACK AND ASKED FOR A REFUND UNDER THE TERMS OF THE SALE OF GOODS ACT.

MAN UP TOM - LETS SEE SOME MORE LUCKY GEORGE - HE AT LEAST GOT HELEN OF TROY - NO MORE DRIPS.

LETS HOPE HE TURNS THE TAPS ON FULL FOR HIS NEXT BOOK!

IN CONCLUSION PROBABLY SUITABLE FOR A MILLS & BOON READER WHO WANTS A SLIGHTLY LONGER BOOK.
