This is a book written by a professional who is out there cutting it and offers a stimulating and educated view of how the world around us works. He brings a colourful array of stories to illustrate a variety of life's decisions and negotiations from business to family. The tissue paper theory is powerful to anybody with grown up children. The decline and fall of the roman empire is amusingly summarised in a few paragraphs to illustrate how modern day businesses can plummet at a stroke but it is not just about business because he gives examples on the thought processes of engaging specialists, how airlines treat their customers, how his son bought his first car and how his wife persuaded him to buy the house she had her heart set on. This strongly emphasises how central negotiation is in everything we do and the author contrasts examples over and over again of the differences between getting things right and getting things oh so badly wrong. The book has lots of mini gems and really it needs to be read cover to cover like a book. It is like spending a weekend on an island with a businessman you admire telling you candidly, creatively and powerfully the very best of his life's experiences in an enthralling expert and authorititive way. If thats what you want don't roll the dice just buy it.
