5.0 out of 5 stars Problem Solved!, 7 Oct 2011

This review is from: The Potter's Guide to Ceramic Surfaces: A Practical Directory of Ceramic Surface Decoration Techniques, Plus Guidance on How Best to Use Them (Paperback)
As a novice potter I was so concerned with shape, form and texture and creating a clay body that I liked, that decorating the fired pot was almost an afterthought. So quite often, as indeed I have seen others do, I would produce a lovely pot and then ruin it by using an inappropriate glaze or surface decoration. Now, thanks to Jo Connell's wonderful book, which exhausts every available possibility, my work should improve considerably. Here is a beautifully illustrated must-have manual which can serve as both an inspiration and a guide on how to succeed in the pursuit of excellence.

I've followed a pottery course, and learned how to throw. That's difficult, but the next step the finishing of your product is even more challenging. With this book, you've got almost to many ideas in great ways to finish of your pots and cups or handbuild creations. It's a well written book with detailes pictures from wich you will definitly get inspired to try new glazing methods, or even try different firing techniques. If you are interested in finding your own style, this book will help you along your way.

5.0 out of 5 stars A 'Must Have' Book, 7 Feb 2012

This review is from: The Potter's Guide to Ceramic Surfaces: A Practical Directory of Ceramic Surface Decoration Techniques, Plus Guidance on How Best to Use Them (Paperback)
Many books on ceramics are interesting, but few of them are 'must have'. This is certainly one of mine.

It takes you through a wide range of techniques, and has some nice examples of what can be done. Some techniques may be unavailable to you as it needs equipment you haven't got access to [eg. Raku] but I would expect at least some of the techniques will inspire you to do something more adventurous - certainly worth the price of the book.

I would recommend it to anyone interested in developing their pottery skills.
