5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read
I greatly enjoyed this book but then I may be biased as I grew up in Limousin and originally bought this book to see how the region was going to be portrayed. I felt it was depicted with sincerity despite some liberties taken by the author with some local expressions, (I am not talking about the 'Trompette de La Mort' which are delicious by the way), and also his own...

3.0 out of 5 stars An interesting read
On the whole this is an interesting account of second home (and then permanent residence) in France. His descriptions of people and places are both colourful and add to the overall enjoyment of the book. Having lived in France for 5 years and experienced French life for myself his experiences are familiar and not uncommon. The only down side were the last 4 chapters. I...

3.0 out of 5 stars Clunky but interesting, 25 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book had the ring of truth but was short of a good edit. It was interesting and did not make light of the pitfalls of embarking on such a venture.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing inspiring, 9 Oct 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Bon Courage: A French Renovation in Rural Limousin (Paperback)
I found this book generally quite ordinary; nothing at all inspiring and certainly not a page-turner. It tells the story of the authors time renovating a home in the Limousin area of France. Apart from some humorous descriptions of their new neighbours and some of their oddities, there is nothing out of the ordinary about the book. In fact some parts were very technical with regards the re-construction of the barn.Unless you are a DIY enthusiast, or know anything about reconstructions, you will end up skipping chunks of the book to avoid these boring and dry passages.
If you want inspiration for finding your new home in the sun then I would say there are plenty of other books which are more inspiring and interesting.

1.0 out of 5 stars DULL DREARY and A DREAMER, 18 Jun 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Bon Courage: A French Renovation in Rural Limousin (Paperback)
What a dissapointment!!! This was not the adventure book I had hoped for. This is NO DRIVING OVER LEMONS!! Commutting back and forward to renovate your house, is no great adventure. And taking FIVE YEARS before you move there. Hmmmm I think this is someone who saw this as an opportunity to write a book more than start a new life. Only interesting as I know the limousin region. Not at all funny. Characters sounded intersting but vague descriptions..poorly written......
