5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for the fans, 7 Oct 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Batman Animated (Paperback)
This book is definite coffee table material for those who are not ashamed to finding a cartoon one of the best Televion programmes ever. This excellently illustrated book gives an insight as to how the whole idea of the animated series came about, showing the development of the characters, and the series itself. Also contains an episode guide, and a cast list, allowing you to find out whose that voice you thought you recognised was.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent companion to the DVD boxsets, 9 Jun 2006

This book is an excellent companion to Batman - The Animated Series (the BEST on screen version of The Dark Knight ever! I don't care what anyone else thinks!)

It tells the story of the show told in both words and pictures, and the pictures are wonderful. Lots of them, in glossy colour.

Includes lots of raw sketches of scenes that you'll recognise as the early, formative thoughts of what was actually on TV.

It's got a couple of fold out pages (ie a double page becomes 4 pages across) - one of them features all the individual "title cards" from show. It's great!

Definitely one of the best BatBooks I own (and I've got quite a few!)

If you're a fan of the series and more particularly an admirer of the artwork and writing itself, this is THE reference source if you want to see how they put it all together. Dini and friends have really made an exceptional effort here that shows how proud they are of their work and how much they respect their fans. A wonderful, high quality book that you must own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great insight into Batman Animated, 31 Dec 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Batman Animated (Paperback)
The BTAS was widely regarded as the 'new breed' of cartoon and, for me, reclaimed Batman. This is a fantastic companion piece giving a fascinating insight into the making of the series and thinking behind the animation style.
With background to the stories, characters, backgrounds, animation, music, actors etc it doesn't really 'read' but, as mentioned by other reviewers, is a great coffee table book (or smaller rooms of the house). It's so easy to dip in, flip the pages and read/look at something interesting... if you're into Batman of course.

A great book for those genuinely interested in animation. Lots of storyboards, character designs and layouts. Very well presented with excellent artwork. Well written too but the book is all about the pictures.
