4.0 out of 5 stars Probably the most informative, needs a 'tweek' now and again
Probably the most informative book covering the MOD, NATO, UK Command and all 3 forces, a few minor mistakes, to organisations, maybe this is because of the developing nature of the SDSR, and because I'm being too picky, being in a unit that has been moved, and not quite as described in the book. Still best on the market, would recommend for the over wiki, useful for...

3.0 out of 5 stars Hugely valuable reference but poor proof-reading is embarassing
I find the book full of useful and accessible information but what I find difficult to forgive is the poor updating of the text year to year. For example, where it might say 'these ships have been in service for over 25 years' you can do the maths and see that they have now been in service for over 30 or it might say 'the ships in this class vary so representative...

I find the book full of useful and accessible information but what I find difficult to forgive is the poor updating of the text year to year. For example, where it might say 'these ships have been in service for over 25 years' you can do the maths and see that they have now been in service for over 30 or it might say 'the ships in this class vary so representative statistics are shown' and then there is only 1 ship left in class. There are frequent examples of this and it is distracting and annoying - get a grip Charles!

4.0 out of 5 stars UK Armed Forces - Nearly a Tour de Force, 1 Jun 2014

This review is from: The Armed Forces of the United Kingdom 2014-2015 (Paperback)
This is an excellent overview of the UK's armed forces. It makes a brave attempt to untangle the country's current and confused defence policy. My only criticism is that the book could do with better editing as there are signs that it was written over a longish time and some pieces are contradictory. This denied it a 5* rating.. Nonetheless, well done!

Very detailed. Dropped a star as I would have liked to see recent decreases easier and also the regiment names lost when mentioning the infantry battalions

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but not complete., 17 Mar 2014

An interesting and insightful book, very useful for anybody interested in joining the armed forces or just has an interest. Unfortunately there is no mention of either The Corps of Army Music, The Royal Marines Band Service, or The Royal Air Force Music Service which are all members of the British Armed Forces. This oversight has left me rather disappointed.
