This review is from: Chicken Clicking (Hardcover)
The title, I worked out after reading, is a play on the 'Chicken Licken' fairy tale. In that story, animals naively believed the sky was falling on their heads. Today, a chicken naively thinks the internet is safe and fun and she can do anything she wants on it...

I should have read it through first, but it was a delight to see where Willis took this story. The chicken sneaks into her farmer's house and starts internet shopping - first for small things (a teapot, a blouse). Then she gains confidence and the farmer starts to wonder where his new motorbike came from. Then she gets lonely and decides to find a friend on the internet, and go off to meet her...

My son had been quite merrily giggling away at all the silly things the chicken bought but was a little concerned for her at the rather unappetising last page, but luckily showed me the chicken running to safety on the back cover (PARENTS - take note of this!!).

This may not be ideal for the three-year-old (though wholly appropriate soon I'm sure), but would be ideal for both parents and teachers of older children trying to teach internet safety in a fun and understandable way.

Tony Ross, I usually like as Willis's illustrator, but I found his pictures a little wishy-washy in colour this time.

The rhyming story is great, easy to read and a short story that would work in a class story session or a bedtime at home. I would say age 4-8 would be the best age to discuss the issues surrounding this brilliantly wicked story. It's fun for parents too - I liked the sheep on scooters and the farmer's wife insisting it wasn't HER that bought a hundred handbags!
