Hilarious account to a hard hitting job
on 1 August 2013
Reading Police, Crime & 999 (J.Donoghue, prequel to Police, Lies & Alibis) I was genuinely disappointing to be reaching the last few pages. A hilarious and no holds barred account on the day to day life of front line policing, I had found myself chuckling the entire way through and really felt I could engage with the author. So you can imagine my delight when I went online to find there was a sequel!!
Having just finished reading a rather heavy and boring university text book I was really looking forward to delving into something funny and easy to read and this book certainly didn't disappoint, I found myself very easily drifting into the book, which just like the prequel, I found incredibly difficult to put down.
Having members of all 3 emergency services within my family I am no stranger to the trial and tribulations that the job entails or their consequential black humor. I felt the author found the perfect balance of both these aspects bringing out not only the funny side to policing but also bringing to home, at points, the seriousness of crime. But do not let that fool you into thinking this book is at any point hard hitting, far from it, I can honestly say, with my hand on heart, these are two of the funniest books I have ever read. The kind of books which should not be read in public if you don't want people to know what your reading because I guarantee you will be laughing out loud no matter where you are.
