Paper doesn't allow for proper layering with coloured pencils
on 22 February 2016
This has been my "learner" book since I took up adult colouring and on one level it's excellent. It contains a good range of patterns, designs and floral images, and has stood up well to most of the media I've used. My copy was printed and bound in China while other books in the series were made in Spain and as far as I can tell the quality of the paper in the Spanish-made books is far superior. I've used gel pens (Fiskars and Sakura), Faber Castell Aquarelle pencils, and Faber Castell Pitt brushes in this book without issue or bleed-through. Unfortunately, the paper won't allow proper layering and blending of Faber Castell Polychromos pencils. Instead of going down smoothly on the page, there are unpleasant white lines which show through the colour and ruin the overall effect.
I've enjoyed the learning process but now that I've acquired a bit more skill it's time to move on to one of the other books in the series with better quality paper.
