Too many ingredients I can't get!
on 2 May 2015
I'm coming to the end of my chemo and bought this book when I was first diagnosed with cancer but it remains unused for a number of reasons. Firstly, when you're going through chemo long-distance drives to shops which sell the more exotic ingredients in these recipes are out. I have only been able to make short journeys to my small local supermarket. So if you don't live in a big city with lots of local Asian or large supermarkets then don't bother. Secondly, I found that I wanted comforting, familiar food while I'm having chemo. I haven't wanted to try lots of new tastes and unfamiliar foods. Adventurous is not what my palate has been on chemo. Thirdly, although I love to cook, I haven't felt like it much these last few months. I think this book is written for partners of cancer sufferers who will be doing the cooking so it's not meant for me. Finally, I have not wanted to eat creamy or cheesy dishes partly because of nausea and also because of chemo-related digestive problems. I have only wanted to eat clean food with lots of veg and fruit and simple food. I really wanted to like this book but hated it instead and it sits unused on my shelf - sorry but not for this chemo cook!
