This review is from: The Other Ninth Air Force: Ninth US Army Light Aircraft Operations in Europe 1944-45 (Hardcover)
This is the perfect addition to Mr. Wakefield's other works, The Fighting Grasshoppers and Lightplanes at War. The first two books provide information about what Liaison aircraft were, what they did and how vital they were to the war effort. There are many personal accounts in both that relate the human background to the facts and figures. This book is almost entirely from the HQ point of view. Why the orders were given and by whom. It contains priceless lists of tail numbers of individual aircraft that were noted in the Ninth US Army daily journals kept by Lt Col. Robert Leich, Artillery Air Officer for Ninth Army, which will be of invaluable assistance in researching the history of scores of original aircraft. There is also a treasure trove of background information to be gleaned by anyone who can "read between the lines". A magnificent resource.
