I have been devouring it, waiting for something really compelling to read about but it seems ( I'm halfway through ) that the people left to tell the story were never part of the group and don't know what really transpired in those places.

Hugely interesting book - I really appreciated all the aside comments and observations on present day Kenya and the directions taken on issues like environment, the cost of Development, what is Progress after independance etc.

excellent reading, delves into a shameful episode of only a very few Kenya settlers and now widely misunderstood by the general public. Students of Kenya history should study it.

Enjoyable ramble through old and modern Kenya. Would have liked a map showing the properties explored. Research a little thin in some places, but generally really good.

By far the most interesting account of Happy Valley, and the mystery of the murder that i have read. Also fascinating on the Mau Mau, and Kenya as it is now.

Well written and informative.Only criticism is too much detail on the old houses.
The question remains - who killed Lord Erroll ? Someone knows. !!

another story of the Kenya that I knew and the people in it. Although the names of places have changed since living there

Enjoyed the story line and it was easy to read. Some parts a little far fetched, but that's what stories are about!!

This book adds detail to what is already known about Kenya's Happy Valley by following up the homes and families.
