This is a very easy to read true story about a gorgeous cat called "Smokey". Obviously, because unfortunately animals cannot speak, "Smokey's" early days are supposition as she did not have the best start in life. She had 7 previous homes before she was taken into Ruth Adam's home where "Smokey's" life then took a turn for the better and she is now world famous.

All cats purr like all dogs bark, but to become the cat with the loudest purr in the world is quite something! To get into the Guinness World Records book is no mean feat and took a lot of work on behalf of "Smokey" ably assisted by Ruth and others.

Because this is very important life journey, going from a kitten born in Northamptonshire in 1999 who had 1 sister and 2 brothers, to a world class purrer, "Smokey" has written her story herself so you are reading this from a feline's point of view.

It is a charming book and has some lovely sketches and a wealth of photos in the centre of the book which all brings "Smokey's" story even more alive for you.

This charmingly-written story is the true account of how Smokey, a rescue cat from Northamptonshire, came to be the proud holder of the Guinness World Record for the world's Loudest Purring Domestic Cat. Prior to being rehomed by Ruth Adams and her family, poor Smokey had had seven previous 'homes'. Of course, Ruth does not know exactly how Smokey came to be rejected so many times, but she skilfully and movingly imagines situations which will be more than familiar to anyone who has ever worked in cat rescue. One thing I particularly liked about the story was the way in which, during her re-imagined, pre-Adams life, Smokey had had to find ways to be noticed, one of which was developing her purr. When Smokey arrives at the Adams', the stage is set for her world record attempt. This began life as a local Cats Protection initiative to promote responsible pet ownership, before gaining the attention of the national and international media. One of the best things about the book is the attractive pen sketches which accompany the text, and which really help bring it to life. One thing I would like to know is what happened to Sooty, Smokey's fellow-traveller from home no.2. She may not be in the Guiness Book of Records, but I'd like to know how she's getting on! This is a lovely book, which would appeal to both children and adults.

This lovely book is about Smokey who has the loudest purr in the world, she has won the Guinness World Record for the loudest purring domestic cat in the world.

The book starts off about the life of Smokey with her moving from home to home and in between living in cat rescue homes. And then finally after years of moving she finds her perfect owners Ruth Adams and her family. This is when Ruth finds out her cat has a talent.

Ruth and her friend who worked for a cat charity decided they would have a purring competition to promote the importance of spaying and neutering cats. So overnight Smokey becomes a worldwide star, she was on the news, local and worldwide papers and even the radio. As the story goes on you realise the dream of the world record was almost shattered but with determination she did it and won.

This book would suit any child, adult and cat lovers or make non cat lovers fall in love.

The beginning of the book has a forward by "Larry the Downing Street Cat" and lovely cat facts and sketches. There are also loads of lovely photographs of Smokey and her human and pet family.

Please read this book and you will see what an amazing cat Smokey is with a massive heart and a very loud purr.

When Diana Johnson suggested I download this book onto my kindle I did not expect such a fun read. Written in Smokey's 'own words' the reader experiences all the excitement, anxiety and finally triumph of her story. I wonder if Ruth would consider a follow up - maybe 'Further adventures of Smokey'? Highly recommended.

I read this book in a few days and I loved it. Humourous, cute, feel good book.
A fascinating insight into how to achieve a Guinness World Record as well. My son had the Guinness World Record for Christmas and mentioned seeing Smokey in it!
Read Lady magazine this month and Smokey was in that.

Smokey, the very loud purring cat, tells her story with charm, wit and patriotism. When she learns the BBC will interview her, she says, "I was purring for England." She may belong to England but she purrs her way to the hearts of the world.

After being returned to an animal shelter a heart breaking number of times, Smokey finds her purrfect family. And loudly purrs her way to a Guinness World Record while promoting spaying and neutering to save lives. Smokey's book begins with introductions by the RSPCA, Larry "The Downing Street Cat", and the Guinness World Records Editor -- who shares the history of Guiness World Records creation. I don't want to include spoilers so I'll just say Guiness World Records began, as great stories often do, in a pub.

I recommend Smokey to anyone who loves the story of a heroine triumphing over adversity by a special attribute.

This is the charming story of Smokey – the rescue cat who set a Guinness world record for the loudest purr.
Told by Smokey herself (with a bit of help from her owner Ruth Adams), this is the story of a rescue cat found its perfect home and fame all in one go.
The book highlights the plight of many cats who find themselves in rescue centres through no fault of their own and the amazing job that rescue centres do. However, the majority the of the book centres around the world record breaking bid the Smokey and Ruth decided to undertake.
This is a charming book which will be loved by cat lovers everywhere. The perfect book to read when you want a quick read which will leave you smiling with a lovely warm feeling inside.
