I bought this book in the hope of finding something new about what , and who influenced Sandy early on (apart from the obvious, Dylan etc.) and get an insight on where she would have gone, musically had she lived.
I'm afraid i was left disappointed. Philip Ward is obviously a massive fan of her music (aren't we all?), but doesnt really come up with anything new.
There is a lot of this book wasted, in my view, in discussing stuff that's irrelevant to what's supposed to be 'Refections on her music' Dylan?, ok, Zeppelin? one song, (we get eight pages on Zeppelin), Sheilagh McDonald? very good singer, but did she influence Sandy?
The biggest disappointment though was the chapter 'A digression into theory', nine pages (in which Sandy is mentioned once) of the author trying to justify his existence (i think!) that would easily claim a place in Private Eye's Pseuds Corner.

Well laid out, intriguing facts, but more a reference tool than a book to be read straight through from start to finish. Still investigating it, dipping in every now and then.

Excellent book for anyone interested in the life and songwriting of Sandy Denny. Contains pictures not seen before in any other book.

The book is quite an enjoyable read but disappointing in terms of discussing many of the lyrics. Too much space is given to some of the people around Sandy and too little on the music.

really enjoyed the book. Not an easy life for such a gifted singer. a must to sit with the CD collection.
