5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute gem of a book for Spurs fans everywhere!
If you're looking for a gift idea for any Spurs fanatic you know, then this book is absolutely ideal. Or maybe if you are a Spurs fan yourself and are wondering about adding this book to your collection, then this book is for you too!

I looked forward to reading this book. As an idea it was fresh and interesting with some innovative features. However it was let down for me by some basic factual errors. Biggest of all in the review of the 81/82 season there is mention of the defeat to Liverpool in the League cup final, which actually happened in 1984!!

An enjoyable read but errors like that...

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute gem of a book for Spurs fans everywhere!, 25 Jan 2013
This review is from: The Glory of Spurs (Paperback)
If you're looking for a gift idea for any Spurs fanatic you know, then this book is absolutely ideal. Or maybe if you are a Spurs fan yourself and are wondering about adding this book to your collection, then this book is for you too!

This book is NOT an 'out and out' history of the club (although there is also plenty of that) it is more of a clever and unique book of lists. Greatest Spurs games, heroes, villains, terrace chants... You name it, its in here. No matter what age of fan, there is something in there that will provoke memories for all of us who follow the original team from North London.

Written by a genuine fan of Tottenham Hotspur, 'The glory of Spurs' is a book that you can open at any page and find an interesting fact that you didn't know before about the club.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sums up the Spurs way, 25 Feb 2013
This review is from: The Glory of Spurs (Paperback)
This is a great read, packed with original facts and humour, but most of all a book that gets under the skin of what Spurs are all about. It's filled with little touches that set it apart as real fans book, a labour of love that keeps its perspective. Recommended.

As a long-time Spurs fan I am among many who used to turn to Jim Duggan's writing, witty and sometimes cynical, on his website Topspurs.com, in the dark days of the 1990s and early 2000s. Here could be found light relief, a problem shared if not solved, after yet another numbingly poor display by the incapable inheritors of the Bill Nicholson-led glamour teams of the 1960s and early 1970s, and Keith Burkinshaw's excellent early-1980s side. As far as general football chat goes, Web 2.0 boards have superseded this editorially-driven mode of publication - which is a shame in a way, as most Web 2 content is almost as numbingly banal and ideas-free as those poor performances by Spurs. Which with any luck are permanently in the past (??) as failure to qualify for the champion's league, the current repeated Spurs Syndrome, is actually a lot more palatable than failure to do anything much, all season.

Jim Duggan's Glory book is banality-free; a pleasure to read from start to finish. He lists various aspects of the team's historic and recent achievements and failings, bestowing praise where due, withering criticism where appropriate. While it's not always a pleasant read (thanks to those awful years, which he experienced much as I did) even when chronicling the worst moments it doesn't have the self-righteousness of most fan-writing. We often laughed while we suffered, and so does he.

A shared experience of a moment of magic in the days before television were present. 1978-9, the season after a single year in the second division, Spurs were really good away from home, and were two decent strikers away from being a really good team; Glenn Hoddle filled in the gap by scoring from midfield. A win 3-2 at Aston Villa, coming from 2-0 down, the winner an exquisite chip on the run by Hoddle, was among my best moments as a Spurs fan. You had to be there; Jim Duggan was, and he tells it like it was, as he does in so much of this fine little book.

Although I'm not a Spurs fan my son in law is so bought it as part of his birthday present. The book arrived promptly in good condition and my son in law tells me that it is a good read, full of interesting and historical facts about the team.
