5.0 out of 5 stars Where it all began..., 1 Mar 2013
This review is from: The Beatles in Liverpool (Hardcover)
Following on from his previous "The Beatles in Hamburg", Spencer Leigh, that tireless and talented chronicler of Merseybeat, has produced a companion work on the Beatles time in Liverpool.
Covering the entire period from playing a church fetes, through regular bookings at the Jacaranda and Casbah, to the famous Cavern scene, and finishing with their final Liverpool performance at the Empire in December 1965.
The book is chock-full of terrific pictures; not only of the boys, but of rare memorabilia, such as posters and letters.
Spencer is a stickler for factual accuracy, refusing to contribute to the Merseybeat mythology, unless he can verify the account. He uses primary sources, having interviewed many of the characters who form part of the story.
The book is a delight for all Beatles fans, especially those who remember that time in Liverpool.

You feel like you were a fly on the wall in some of the scenes from this book.
Spencer does as Spencer does, he goes in to great detail and considering all the contact from his radio shows from the local musicians of the time he has a treasure full of information, just like the Beatles in Hamburg.

Bought as a present. Had a look through. Includes some early photographs. Nothing particularly novel or controversial, but good enough.
