4.0 out of 5 stars Great book - small print
This is a super book, packed full of information, with a large number of photographs and diagrams. I would highly recommend it. Just one comment which prospective buyers should note - in order to provide such a concise history of the Lancaster Bomber in one book, the text has been made very small. Anyone with an eyesight problem might struggle with the print size.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lancaster Bomber
The original title of this book was 'Lancaster: WWII Night Bomber and Dambuster'. This title reflects the content far more accurately than 'Complete Illustrated Encyclopedia'. I guess for only £6.99 one shouldn't expect too much, but on the whole, I was disappointed with this book. I had hoped to see Squadron listings, serial codes, etc., plus a lot more technical info.

Bought this for my dad who has a great love and interest in Lancasters. He rates it highly, said that although it's a realtively small book there is not only a lot of information in it but also some things he didn't previously know (he knows a lot!). He was really thrilled with it.

This book was not quite what I expected. I was looking for a book on the aeroplane itself, but this book is about it's wartime operations.
It is a very interesting read, & contains lots of information about the raids on Germany, but not what I wanted.

This Encyclopedia was very much appreciated by a friend who was in WW2 in a Lancaster Bomber. It would also be of interest to anyone interested in planes or WW2

This review is from: The Complete Illustrated Encyclopedia of the Lancaster Bomber: The History of Britain's Greatest Night Bomber of World War II, in More Than 275 Photographs (Paperback)
I have read many books about Bomber Command and the extraordinary brave men who flew the various bombers. I am particularly interested in the Avro Lancaster and therefore decided to purchase this book called “The Complete Illustrated Encyclopedia of the Lancaster Bomber”. For a start this title is so misleading because the book contains details and pictures of so many other types of aircraft both old and new that one has to search for a picture of the Lanc and when one is found it is likely to be pink! Yes half or more of the original black and white photographs have been given a quite awful pink tint. Why for heavens sake? It contains pink aircraft, pink bombs, pink buildings, pink bomb damage, pink almost everything. One has to get to page 60 before the Lanc is really mentioned and then it goes back to WW1 aircraft again before showing lovely photos of a Spitfire and Vulcan and some present day commercial aircraft which are mostly in glorious colour. In a nutshell this book is a fraud. If someone is looking for a book of photographs of the Lancaster Bomber I strongly suggest they avoid spending money on this quite dreadful and misleading waste of paper. It deserves no stars at all.
