I have just spent a week touring Tuscany independently and took this little book along with me. It was quite useful and gives some interesting background and history but is not as detailed as some of the other small guidebooks available. It does describe the places that it mentions in reasonable detail but its scope is more limited. If you are thinking of buying it then do get it - it is a useful companion and a good read, but do not rely on it alone, make sure you have something else more detailed too.

A good little guide that slips into a pocket, giving insight into what places to visit. No too much to carry.

I usually try to buy the most recently published guide book prior to any overseas visit and this seemed to be it for our visit to Tuscany late last month. Unfortunately, whilst OK as an introduction to the area I would not recommend this guide book as a source of any detailed information as nothing is covered in any depth. However could be useful as a pointer to what to search for on line.
