This product's sole reason for existing is to sell to those looking for a travel themed present, since surely anyone who was actually intending on using the book would soon see that the travel tips are obvious, basic and much better explained elsewhere. The book feels extremely rushed, with little thought into presentation or content, it is a 'title' that will appeal, especially with the promise of Lonely Planet branded insight. In fact, it is a rushjob of quickly Googled information, padded out and lacking of use.
The only reason this book escapes a 1 star treatment is that some people really do need to be told this kind of stuff. Perhaps if you're looking to buy something for a first time traveller there will be something in here they haven't read before. For anyone who has set foot abroad before, however, this is a book which will soon be consigned to the rubbish bin.
