2.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality guide lacking information and descriptions
Inadequate maps, poor quality information, no interesting descriptions of places, too many restaurant reviews. Basic data is available on official websites -- a good guidebook should provide added value. Overpriced and dull.

This is an excellent guide to Colorado. The detail is very extensive indeed and I really don't think they have missed out much.

The content is divided into regions of interest so identifying your preferred site/s is relatively easy. For ease of cross reference these maps should have included parts of the adjoining site maps which would have been very advantageous. Perhaps one overall detailed map with road numbers, etc and a link with the regional maps would also have been helpful. While there is one overall map it is very, very brief so not much use for planning the journey. To make the best of it, one should read the guide in conjunction with a detailed State map.

The reason I have deducted one point is that there are not enough pictures so one has to look at other sources to identify what the site is likely to offer by way of scenery.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad information, poorly organised., 17 Feb 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book is not well organised and not formatted for a Kindle. There are significant factual errors and significant omissions. It provided no value, and wasted much time. This book is worse than useless. It was obviously written by someone with no love for the State of Colorado and has a very negative tone throughout.

Specifically:
- The instructions are for how to use on an iPad, NOT Kindle.
- Bad layout, hard to navigate.
- WRONG information about a source for picnics and sandwiches - opening times wrong and type of establishment wrong.
- MISSING vital warning that snow chains needed for Strawberry hot springs (Steamboat). It is ILLEGAL to drive there without chains in winter and this was not mentioned in the review, resulting in a wasted trip.
- NO MENTION of Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival - an event that has been running for 100 years, closes the main highway to drag children through the street on skis behind horses and has people skiing downhill in the dark with fireworks attached to their head! Highly recommended, but it isn't in the book.
- Kindle Bookmark Synching NOT working - perhaps because this is not a properly converted Kindle title (see note on instructions above).

We purchased this a sa gift for a friend's son travelling to Colorado for a year's study at university there. This was the first Lonely Planet guide I have actually looked at and thought it was great. So much so, I had to continue looking at it after we had given the gift. FUll of useful information about how the locals enjoy their part of the planet. I will be investing in a copy for the Italian Lakes.

Good book. Will be very useful when we get to Colorado. Would have preferred more maps perhaps. Otherwise happy with it.
