This review is from: Scandinavian Europe (Lonely Planet Multi Country Guides) (Paperback)
i have just returned from Stockholm where i put this book to good use. I have used lonely planet guides in the past, and although they do provide travellers with a vague perspective of their destination, i often find them to be geared towards travellers on a medium budget rather than those on a tighter one, and suggested eateries etc are often a tad expensive. this scandinavian Europe book will provide foundational information of your destination from which to build on, but as you might expect with a book that attempts to act as a travel guide for such a vast area, there are a lot of gaps that you should be prepared to fill in yourself. I also had the Lonely Planet pocket guide to stockholm, which was a much more convienient size and provided a more comprehensive guide to the city.

A good way to get an idea of how reliable these guides are is to look at their guide to a destination you know well. I currently reside in edinburgh and feel i have a fair knowledge of the city, but when i look at the bars, restaurants and clubs suggested by the lonely planet guide i am left far from impressed.

Very helpful book for travel through Norway and Sweden - the prices are a little out of date but haven't gone up much.
The restaurant reviews were very helpful in finding traditional food that was good quality at affordable prices.
The only thing we found annoying was that there was a public holiday in Sweden on the weekend 19/ 20 June which I didn't find writen about anywhere and therefore almost everything in the city was closed.

The item hadn't arrived in about 3 weeks, but as soon as I let the supplier know they sent a new one, which arrived in a couple of days. VGC.
