5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting & tasty deep dive into Turkey's food variety!, 11 Sep 2014

This review is from: Turquoise: A Chef's Journey Through Turkey (Paperback)
To start, I own a good 30+ books on middle-eastern food, from Lebannon, to Iran, to Morocco, etc... Five of those are on Turkish food and all mostly cover the "classic" dishes (kebabs, muhammara, tarator, cakic, etc.) that we all know. In this book, beyond the classics, you'll also find quite a few unusual dishes that you'll want to try (zucchini flowers with mint, halloumi & ginger anyone?). Most of the recipes are very interesting, really excellent (the circassian chicken is divine!) and reasonably simple (if I say this, they're really simple for any amateur!), and cover dishes from all corners of the country, e.g. "Fish Soup with Fennel and Raki" from the coast, or "Brain Salad with parsley and black olive dressing". Although it's packed with photos from Turkey (people, places, etc.), not all dishes have their own picture.

Turquoise is more written like an adventure, so there's a lot to read, not just a bunch of recipes (which I really like), very much their other books. An absolute winner, if you don't know much about Turkish food or simply want to spice up your dinners, give this book a try and you won't be disappointed!

I remembered seeing this at a friend's house six years ago, so when it was confirmed we were moving to Istanbul, I knew my researches would have to include a copy of this book.
While it is a selection of recipes it is really much more - a combination travelogue/food p*rn/recipe book it is beautiful and inspiring and will have something for any foodie reader, whether they are already a knowledgeable lover of Turkish cuisine or have yet to discover this wonderful food universe.
