Deck Building games aim to improve on a starting deck by collecting cards from the main deck as the game progresses, hopefully with all players in the hunt building to a competitive climax.

In this case the players are members of the Fellowship of the Ring (each with a special relevant card). They battle a deck of prepared arch-enemies of which you always meet the first and last, but with the Level 2 and 3 arch-enemies not all turning out for every match. The players build up their hands by using their deck's Power to acquire cards and kill arch-enemies until only old Lurtz remains to die. When he hits the floor you total up your victory points from your deck cards and see who wins. The arch-enemies in this family of games are not too horrible, you all suffer an attack from them when first revealed but thereafter you have their measure and just need to hit their power level to win. There are certain powerful combos of cards but as you shuffle your cards and draw five at random some may never see the light of day.

It plays fast and furious with goodly measure of narrative.

Even if you have never played a deck-building game before I can highly recommend this one.

The cards are detailed, high quality scans from the movie. All of the main catchphrases, locations and characters from Fellowship are present and it really feels like a lot of work was put in to producing them.
