Chrome but definitely not silver or gold!
on 15 March 2012
This book was published in 2010, well before the Chrome OS was generally available, and it shows. It is in serious need of revision and if you want to find out about Chrome OS this is not the book for you. For instance, it does not deal with the App Store, iGoogle, Google Cloud Print or even useful services for Chrome OS users such as the ability of Gmail to fetch e-mails from other accounts.
The author is described as a 'technical writer' and, according to the blurb, has written over 60 computer books. His approach seems to be rather formulaic and uninspired and I cannot say that I was impressed by his in-depth knowledge of the subject. He is also rather brash in his style at times and his wisecracks are anything but wise (or funny) - indeed sometimes they are excruciatingly awful.
Having said all of that, if all you want is a detailed guide to using most of the features of Gmail and Google Docs, expressed in a chatty and non-taxing way, then this is definitely the book for you...
