If Milt Caniff is the Rembrandt of the comics then Hal Foster must be the better-artist-than-Rembrandt-of-greater-standing. This volume has page after page of simply stunning works wonderfully constructed as Val traverses medieval Europe from the Orkneys to the Med. There are also a number of significant events that occur during this run which I won't detail despite the spoilers being 60 years old. I think it was the Duke of Windsor who described Prince Valiant as the finest literature he'd seen - I for one do not disagree.
