5.0 out of 5 stars Tender queer coming to terms/coming of age story., 1 Nov. 2011

This review is from: Wandering Son: Book One (Hardcover)
Wandering Son tells the story of a girl who wants to be a boy and a boy that wants to be a girl. I greatly appreciated the mellow narration. Although the characters are in emotional distress because the clash between who they are and who they want to be, the drama portrayed is a slow burn where nobody acts out. If you are looking for immediate intense emotions and destructive relationships do not buy this.

I quite enjoyed the art. Some of the drawings were got an intense emotional reaction from me, partly because I found them beautiful, but also because they were perfectly timed in the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Born this way!, 18 Dec. 2011

This is a wonderful manga - it deals with a difficult issue in a very delicate way. The story develops at a good pace and as @Aram has said the drama is not OTT. I was quite surprised to come across a manga that deals with gender identity issues in such mature way. I am looking forward to reading part two.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great slice of life manga., 11 July 2013

This review is from: Wandering Son: Book One (Hardcover)
This is a touching story about two transgender children. It is in black and white, the pages are quality and the artwork is beautiful. I was expecting a run of the mill paperback for the price I paid for it, but I got a larger non standard book, with a fantastic hardback cover. This is not only a lovely slice of life story, but it is a great object to own as well. It looks splendid on my book shelf, really standing out and looking like a collectable. I wish all manga books were presented like this.
