The latest novel(the third)featuring Detective Louise Rick, and her
best friend ,crime reporter,Camilla Lind,reveals the author,Sara
Blaedel,to be one of the most accomplished Scandinavian crime fiction
writers.
A young female is found murdered with her throat cut in the 'red light'
district of Copenhagen.Shortly afterwards,Camilla's son finds a new-born
baby abandoned near by a church. The story develops into a rich enjoyable
thriller concerning prostitution and the trafficking of of young woman from
Europe to Denmark.
Sara Blaedel, as in her other novels ,not only writes an excellent thriller,
but also engages thoughtfully with some of the ills of society.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another gem from this Danish author, 30 Dec 2012

Farewell to Freedom is the fourth in the series with Detective Louise Rick based at Copenhagen Police. It is however the third to be translated to English for the US market.
Farewell to Freedom is a well constructed story involving people smuggling across Europe into Denmark and it's consequences to Copenhagen. The story had a very satisfying conclusion and fans of TVs The Bridge will be pleased to see the bridge itself feature in the story. It also seems that Louise Rick is based in exactly the same police headquarters as Sarah Lund in TV's The Killing.
The mystery takes us between Denamrk and Sweden and we also meet Louise's journalist friend Camilla once again.
As for the translation - could be better. There were a few sentences in the book that did not make sense. Mentioning that Strøget is Copnhagen's main pedestrianised shopping area twice within a short space of pages seems quite pointless. The map at the front of the book refers to a municipality of Denmark as Frederiksberg and then also Frederiksburg on the same page. That is just sloppy. Hopefully when this receives a date for the UK market, these errors will have been corrected.
Enjoy the story!
