If you are looking for an easy way into playing the Pathfinder fantasy role-playing game, this is it.

It holds your hand and guides you through the whole game play experience, for both the GM and players. It explains the process of character creation and what all the numbers and abbreviations on the character sheet actually means, and each step along the path of running encounters and dealing with the game rules.

This box also now comes with an extra booklet, the 'Transition Guide', a 16 page basic guide to transitioning onto the Pathfinder Core Rulebook.

If you are new to role-playing games, or want to introduce someone to them, start here. It's a glorious box full of table top role-playing goodies.

Having searched for a way to get into roleplaying games, and especially Dungeons&Dragons, but finding the D&D Red Box lacking this Pathfinder Beginner Box does just the trick!

The quality of the product was what struck me to start with - the box is a glossy, heavy card stock with vivid illustrations, and a good indicator of the items inside. The contents are listed in the main ad, so I'll not bore you with a list, but needless to say they are well constructed.

Though of a similar size and level as the D&D Red Box starter set, the Pathfinder Beginner Box really wins out in every category! The box is absolutely cram-packed full of goodies for a start, with set up character sheets for a quick way of getting friends into roleplaying. The included tokens and map make for a great tabletop experience, and this really does feel like something that should be more expensive - you really do get the sense that the people at Paizo have offered you a "money-well-spent" experience.

I started D&D with the basic edition from the early 80/90s. Now my kids are 5 and 7 and wanted to get them into roleplaying like I got into roleplaying. I looked around at D&D and other roleplaying game and found the pathfinder beginners box to be the best product. It has everything you need to get the next generation of gamers inspired.

If you're thinking of getting into the Pathfinder RPG, I would say this box is indispensable. It's a reduced version of the core rules, so doesn't replace the need to go expand the rules as you feel more confident with the system (you will need the Core Rulebook for this), but is a much better introduction to the system than the Core Rulebook alone.

It essentially acts as a tutorial, and holds your hand through the initial sessions of gameplay. It's laid out in such a manner as to baby step you through the whole process - and is constructed in a systematic way that seems logical. The Core Rulebook on the other hand, is largely just that; with an emphasis on stats (lots of comprehensive listings and tables) rather than the 'how to' and 'where to start' that the beginners box provides (it is included - but is less apparent because of all the other info that surrounds it).

If you're on a budget - go for the Beginners Box, then expand into the Core RuleBook once you feel that you have a good grasp of the concepts involved. If money is an issue - you can always download the Core Rulebook PDF from the publisher at a later date for a lot less money than the hardback version.

The community is also brilliant. There are lots of people playing this game - and the message boards at the publishers website (and elsewhere) are full of advice and help if you need to clarify any aspect of the rules.

The box itself is great value. Good quality books and counters etc. Everything you will need to get the ball rolling.

Recommended.

Bought in April 2015 for £16.99

I'm not going to detail what the box contains, it tells you in the description. Nor am I going to explain role playing games and dice games.

A Pathfinder-lite beginners introduction with everything you need to start playing straight away, and some useful information on how to play, how to be a GM, how to create new characters and even has 4 premade characters with their sheets and inventory all made up ready to go. The only catch is you really need a minimum of 3 people (one GM and 2 players) to make this worth while. 5 would be the ideal amount in reality. In addition, if you aren't very meticulous, it really could take you forever to work out the premade dungeon, especially as you share the dice. Also, when i say it's a Pathfinder-lite version, it really is just the basics. The characters have been simplified in comparison to the core game. However, there is a transition guide to help you move from one to the other. The blank map is especailly useful when making new quests/stories. The cardboard tokens for monsters and characters were high quality and numerous. The dice provided were generic and red. It does make some sense to invest in more dice if this is something you will be doing more often. Overall, as a complete novice to role playing and D&D games as a whole, I was amazed at how good this set is, and the price was very good. Even at full retail price I would say it's good value given how much is provided.

This game is open game license, which means if you want to view the core game book for FREE on the internet, you can! Checkout http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/ That isn't this version (as I mentioned it is a pathfinder-lite) and if you're brand new as I was, it is very daunting reading that core rule book. I can't stress enough how much easier this box and the guides inside made it.

Summary:
A good beginners guide to Pathfinder role playing game with good guides and helpful transition guides also to make playing the core game easier. Not the original core game and mostly only useful to brand new role players. Very good value with things like dice, maps and tokens tht are reusable.

Very good, would definitely recommend to anyone interested in starting to play Pathfinder. However, a couple of reference sheets for the more frequently used rules would be good, and the starting adventure given was a little difficult for the people I played with. Overall though, a fun and worthwhile product.

This here is my favorite possession. It heralds the rebirth of my favorite RPG system and my journey as my groups fulltime GM/DM.
Its filled with everything you need for a very visual, old school D&D game complete with fantastic mini's and a beautiful map.
I'd strongly recommend it to anyone as its just so great plus, the box can be used to store addition maps, mini's and a GM screen.

A great starter pack for people looking to get into pathfinder/D&D. Provides only a few options in terms of character personalisation/customising and adventures, but this can easily be expanded after a little bit of learning.
