How to with Style,
By Gareth Wilson - Falcata Times Blog "Falcata T... - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Graff: The Art and Technique of Graffiti (Paperback)
As a huge fan of the Impact series of How To art books I wanted to get to know the artform that made Banksy a household name. What was staggering was the detail to which Scape Martinez went into for the whole thing taking the reader from beginning concept to colours, from effects to the finished product explaining everything including techniques used by various artists in great detail along with a huge selection of photo's to back his POV. Its gripping, its compelling and you'll want to tackle a project of your own, however, one thing I will advise, is to make sure its your own wall or get permission from your local council, who if they refuse permission, will generally know of an ongoing project within your area where you'll be allowed to practice street art legally.

The last review summed it up nicely! Filled with interesting details on graffiti history, philosophy and numerous tips on drawing styles, techniques, can control and equipment recommendations. If you're an experienced graffiti artist, a researcher or a complete newbie who's never held a spray can; you'll find something of interest in this book :)

I purchased this book expecting it to have the basics to improve graffiti sketching, drawing and spray-painting. This book does exactly that and also has a very nice timeline throughout the book stating different dates in street art history dating to very far back. One other thing I like is the way it explains the reasons why different things were added to graffiti and what artists intended to represent by it.The only thing is that if you are only interested in the drawing of graffiti only 40% is relevant as it also talks a lot about spray-painting. DEFINITIVELY RECOMMEND TO ANYONE INTERESTED IN IMPROVING THEIR GRAFFITI SKILLS!!!!!!!!

Not enough,
This review is from: Graff: The Art and Technique of Graffiti (Paperback)
I get the feeling the author is more trying to cash in on the sub-culture that is Graffiti, than actually teching you the best fundamentals to becom a better artist. The basic stuff is in there of course, but there must be much better books out there (at least I hope so). I would recommend you to buy a book like "Subway Art" or similar instead, for inspiration, then go on the Internet to watch movies about the actual techniques used.
