4.0 out of 5 stars Mutiny of the Bounty Hunter,
This review is from: The Bounty (Paperback)
When he is contracted to track down Nicky Malloy, bounty hunter Tyler Calhoun assumes that he is on the trail of just another wrongdoer. Nicky Malloy is, in fact, Nicole Malloy, a woman who has been disguising herself as a man while on the run. When Calhoun finally catches up with her, he finds himself falling for her ungainly charms.
This is Beth Willamson's first novel in her romantic western series featuring the Malloy family, and a rattling good read it is too. As the principal characters make their long journey across country, the author keeps the character development and punchy dialogue flowing perfectly. No need here for long, meandering prose describing the terrain and the weather.
Their situation is, of course, perfect for lots of comedy moments with sleeping arrangements and misunderstandings with local townsfolk along the way. The prose is often broken up for short bursts as we see events from each character's perspective. This is an effective device because during the middle part of the novel, these are often the only two characters. The author builds up the tension nicely as Calhoun wrestles with his desire for Nicky against the bounty he would receive on completion of his mission.
The cover blurb warns that the book contains explicit sex and graphic language. The sexual content and graphic language is actually very mild. Certainly, there are some sexy moments, but I'd be amazed if many readers were likely to be offended by the contents of this novel. If you're a fan of romantic westerns, this book is definitely worth reading.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good book to while away a few hours!,
I enjoyed this book, good story line and characters were reasonably well developed.
I wanted to give this book 4.5 stars but couldn't so gave it 4! The reason for this is there are small gaps in the story that could do with filling and some of the language used doesn't fit the year. Also the action scenes esp the final confrontation sees the law makers as weak people and the hero's as outlaws.
Would recommend this if you like light reading you can whizz through (which I do)!
4.0 out of 5 stars 4 stars!,
I'm getting a thing for historical romances!
Nicky has been on the run for three years. Tyler is a bounty hunter hell bent on collecting that $6000 reward, bringing her in alive, her crimes being murder and theft.
When Tyler first learns that Nicky is Nicole, he thinks this job will be easy. Not til he finds himself buried up to his waist, at the hands of a Mexican crime lord, and Nicky rescues him, does he realise this job will be VERY different!
Nicky will NOT hang for crimes she did not commit. Whne Tyler catches up with her, she plans, plots and gets away....only to be caught....again....and again!
And then...she marries him! I'll not tell all the rest, suffices to say, they are a match made in heaven...or hell, depending on which mood either of them is in!
I loved this book! Nicky and Tyler really are made for each other, and their relationship develops at a fast pace, as they move closer to Nicky's demise. Nicky finally lets lose what really happened, and Tyler agrees to help clear her name.
some sex, although the blur says explicit, I wouldn't say so. its written with words of the time, but beautifully written, and so I've not classed it as 18. some violence too, along with Nicky's mouth that can curse a blue streak!
I've added the others in this series to my wish list :-)
5.0 out of 5 stars The malloy family,
Fantastic book even though it contained a few typos and some really bad punctuation and grammatical errors I have still given it 5 stars
4.0 out of 5 stars A good read,
As someone who doesn't really like Westerns or Historicals I can honestly say I REALLY enjoyed this book. It doesn't read like normal Historical books where the language is all arty farty, this book could easily have been set in the modern day. I was amazed by Nicoles crude language, her 'scary spice' attitude and her fantastic fighting skills. Tyler Calhoun is a gorgeous character who, without the moustache, I would really enjoy running away from! OK so the sex isn't exactly hardcore but it was well written enough for me to forgive that. It's well worth a go for the price.
