5.0 out of 5 stars The force is stong with this one...., 8 Oct 2009
This review is from: Star Wars: The Complete Trilogy (Audio CD)
This is, quite possibly, the best radio drama ever written! Mark Hamill is excellent in reprising his role as Luke Skywalker in both the Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back radio drama, it is just a shame that he could not do the sam for The Return of the Jedi radio drama. The sound effects are just amazing too. All in all, a very worthwhile purchase for any Star Wars fan!

Star Wars Running time 6 hours.
The Empire Strikes Back Running time 5 hours.
Return Of The Jedi Running time 2 hours 30 minutes.

Timelord Thoughts.

This box set contains the 3 Star Wars classic trilogy recorded as a radio adaption in the early 1980's Starring Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker*, Anthony Daniels as C3PO & Billy Dee Williams* as Lando Calrissian whom reprise there roles for this radio drama.

(*Mark Hamill appears as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars & The Empire Strikes Back only/*Billy Dee Williams appears as Lando Calrissian in The Empire Strikes Back only).

This radio drama enhanches the drama of the Star Wars classic trilogy as it includes scenes that were some scripted & filmed but didn't make the final cut while other scenes were included in the original scripts but were never recorded.

What also makes this enjoyable is hearing Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniel's & Billy Dee Williams reprising the roles respectively as it adds to hearing the movies come to life on audio add to the fact the original music by John Williams & sound effects by Ben Burtt & you have a thrilling audio drama experience.

Sadly no Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher or James Earl Jones as Darth Vader & while the voice actor Perry King performing as Han Solo is pretty decent at recreating Harrison Ford's performance & Ann Sachs is competent as voicing Princess Leia, Brock Peter's doesn't quite capture those chilling tones of James Earl Jones booming voice as Lord Darth Vader in the movie's.

Return Of The Jedi is the weak link of this radio production as Mark Hamill couldn't reprise his role as Luke Skywalker which feels disappointing end for this radio trilogy as Return Of The Jedi is about the climax of Luke's journey that's been built up in the previous two radio play's & the voice actor Joshua Fardon doesn't quite capture Mark Hamill's emotions in the role.
Billy Dee Williams is also absent & his role is now voiced by Arye Gross who sounds nothing like Williams.

This is still a worthy purchase for audiobook fans & the missing scenes included in this radio adaptation expand upon the overall story some what.

Slightly flawed in places but well worth a listen & a must buy for Star Wars fan's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing audio radio versions of the OT, 29 Sep 2013

I remember these from the early 80s, ANH and TESB are both great and are both greatly expanded- ANH is almost 6 hours long and TESB is almost 5 hours long. ROTJ came out much later and is far shorter- about 2.5 hours- still it contains some lost scenes like Luke constructing the new saber. The only thing missing is the making of NPR Star Wars which should have been included! You can find this in Vader's Vault by Sansweet! But in the end it is Star Wars and so for me it was a must!

It's a wonderful way to explore the Star Wars universe with a little more background than seen in the films.
