5.0 out of 5 stars Love this book
I knitted the cover design on this book with the recommended wool. It was the fist time I had knitted a jumper from the neck down in one piece and I found the pattern easy to follow and knitted true to size, although I am probably a more experienced knitter even beginners won't have problems following it. I knitted the cover design on this book with the recommended wool. It was the fist time I had knitted a jumper from the neck down in one piece and I found the pattern easy to follow and knitted true to size, although I am probably a more experienced knitter even beginners won't have problems following it. Everyone who has seen the end result has commented on how much they like it. I am gong to try other designs but I would advise trying to go for as good quality wool as you can afford as this does tend to make fairisle easier to knit evenly which creates a better finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fairisle Delight, 15 Jan 2014

Where to start? This is a fantastic books from the amazing Mary Jane Mucklestone and is a complete delight. It is full of gorgeous designs and beautiful projects. Fairisle is, perhaps, not for the fainthearted but is not beyond the ken of most knitters, especially those with a few years of experience. However, this book is an excellent resource and should find a happy place on many knitters bookshelves. Give it a go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh ideas for fairisle knitting, 28 Aug 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
There are twenty patterns in this very reasonably priced book, including cowls, sweaters both long and 3/4 length sleeved and a tunic style dress, mittens , gloves,a couple of hat and sock patterns, a large blanket, leg warmers, a longer line cardigan and a babies stylised knitted bird toy. There are some nice inclusions at the end ,advice on colour choice and colour theory and wools,as well as the usual abbreviations section and clear pictured instructions for decreasing, increases , i cords and other stitches used. This book would not be suitable for the beginner, fairisle can be tricky to master and a couple of patterns on first glance do seem quite complex. The shrug for example is knitted in pieces so it is almost seamless, there are quite a few diagrams to digest for this particular pattern. But there are lovely smaller items to enjoy knitting, simpler mittens and a few hats, if more than three colours seems daunting it would be easy to create a lovely variation sticking to blacks, greys and cream for example.. A variety of wool weights are used although the majority use finer wools and a smallish needle gage.Being able to read colour charts, knit in the round using a circular or double pointed needles is a necessity for knitting colourful designs.

I bought it for the cover jumper and that will be my first make from the book, especially as it is using Scottish wool and not some American yarn I will have to find an alternative for.
