4.0 out of 5 stars A useful follow-on to knit kimono, 23 Aug 2011

This book is a useful follow on to the first volume on knitting kimono-style cardigans with some interesting new ideas. There is great scope for adapting the stitches, colours and shapes to individual requirements, I would probably shorten some of the sleeves to a 3/4 length as very full sleeves can be a bit hazardous when active, then wear a long-sleeved polo neck underneath. I especially like the sleeveless small light-weight jumpers designed to be worn under the kimonos as these will also go well under tailored jackets. Being knitted on small needles they will obviously take more time but the little intricate details and patterns are lovely and unusual and make one eager to start knitting. The patterns are clear and well laid out, the illustrations enticing. All in all a good little purchase

If you loved Vicki first Kimono knitting book, you will be eager to get this second edition. It has some very good patterns and the added bonus of a DVD. It starts with a brief history of kimonos illustrated with drawings. The first patterns is very elegant and easy to knit. Its pattern is stitched after knitting. It has some lovely detailing on the neckline and the knotted cord buttonholes. There is also a simple, very effective seed stitch top that has a certain grace. By and large a good collection of designs inspired by the kimono that at times, however, seems to lose the grace and elegance of form. This review first appeared on Karen Platt's book review website.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent pattern book, 26 Mar 2014

I ordered this book for just one pattern, but there are several within that warrant more than a second thought. Having said that, the patterns - by the very nature of the book title - are very similar. The attached DVD is an excellent addition, although I have yet to watch it fully - it contained much that is interesting and helpful. All in all a good purchase, and I feel I will use this book more than a couple of times. Well worth the money spent.
