5.0 out of 5 stars The Evertype edition--a careful, properly typeset book worthy of the name "dictionary"
At the risk of showing blatent conflict-of-interest, I'm writing this because I noticed that reviews for OTHER publishers' editions (and their ratings) showed up on this listing. I won't belabour this review with self-serving hyperbole. I'll just quote two paragraphs from the introduction:

"Free online digital editions of the dictionary are now available at two...

3.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant book, awful binding
Review of the hardcover edition.
Concerning the contents this dictionary is absolutely brilliant. If you read ME you will want this wordhoard. It contains pretty much all ME words, is clearly set out and printed in an easy to read font. The contents deserve 5 stars - and you'll be glad you got this book.

(REAL NAME)
At the risk of showing blatent conflict-of-interest, I'm writing this because I noticed that reviews for OTHER publishers' editions (and their ratings) showed up on this listing. I won't belabour this review with self-serving hyperbole. I'll just quote two paragraphs from the introduction:

"Free online digital editions of the dictionary are now available at two major archives, and these too are useful for online searching. Some of these have been edited into legible formats; some are more or less raw ascii texts. A few "publishers" have released printed versions which are little more than dumps of those plain-text files--and I use the scare quotes advisedly here, feeling sorry for those students who have bought those editions thinking that they were, in fact, buying proper dictionaries.

"This edition has been set in Baskerville, a clear and accessible font, which it is hoped, will increase the legibility of the book. Further choices made in typesetting have led to additional changes in format, both for aesthetic reasons and to modernize the text in line with the contemporary reader's expectations."

I trust that potential buyers will take advantage of Amazon's excellent "Look Inside!" feature before making their purchase decisions.

Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Concerning the binding this is one massive con! Do not be fooled by the term "hardcover" - the book is glued, not sewn, and stuck into a hardcover by its endleaves. This product is not made to last, which, considering that it's a dictionary which by it's very nature is subject to frequent use, is totally out of order. The binding deserves 0 stars - and you'll regret getting this book.
Overall 2.5 stars.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy This On Kindle: A Rip Off, 11 Nov 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
What a waste of my money.

Bought this on kindle and there is no way of quickly finding the word you need (since a dictionary is after all a reference book), you would have to press your button or touch the screen 600 times to get to the a word at the end of the dictionary for e.g.

A kindle is not the same as a paperback or hard back. You need to produce your books for kindle with links for quick reference, professor!!!

I actually want my money back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top book!, 17 April 2013
This review is from: A Concise Dictionary of Middle English (1888) (Paperback)
If you love the English language then you'll like this. It is packed full of words and each comes with alternative spellings and obviously the meaning. Some, you'll be surprised, that you actually knew!
It is well laid out and well researched. A real treasure to the lover of Middle English!
A really good book. So good I do not feel the need to buy any others.
